If you're in Perth

  • Truffle HillClaremont, Perth

The estate's Truffle Boutique and cafe; check it has the truffle salt first.

  • Petra Olive OilClaremont, Perth

The maker's own shop; check opening hours on its site.

Getting it there by the last day

  • Order by about Mon 30 November. Truffle Hill and Vasse Virgin quote 7 to 10 business days; our sums leave a few school days spare.
  • Petra Olive Oil needs longer. It allows 10 to 14 days, so order from it a little earlier.
  • Order chocolate and fudge early, or collect them. Gabriel Chocolate, Temper Temper and Margaret River Fudge Factory may hold parcels back in very hot weather.
  • A small gift can cost less than its postage. Order for two or three teachers from one maker to share a parcel, or collect in person.

Teacher gift questions

What's a good end-of-year gift for a teacher?

Something small they'll use or share, with a note from your child. Nougat, fudge or chocolate for the staffroom, tea or coffee for their mug, or a candle or handmade side plate to keep. The note matters most: a few lines in your child's own handwriting, about something from the year.

How much should you spend on a teacher gift in WA?

There's no set amount. The Department of Education's rule for WA public schools doesn't tell you what to spend. It does say a thank-you gift worth more than $100 can only be accepted if it comes from a group, and the teacher has to declare it (see the next question). Many families give something small, or put in towards a class gift instead.

Can teachers accept gifts in WA?

Yes, within limits. For WA public schools, the Department of Education's gifts procedures say a thank-you gift from parents or students worth more than $100 has to be declared by the teacher, and can only be accepted if it comes from a group. For a class group gift, it's the total that counts, not each family's share, and group gifts worth $500 or more have tighter rules again. Cash isn't accepted, and a gift card for a particular shop has to be declared and approved before the teacher can keep it. Independent and Catholic schools set their own rules, so check with the school. This isn't legal advice: we're pointing you to the Department's gifts procedures, which we read on 14 October 2026.

Is a class group gift a good idea?

Yes: one thing to choose, one card to sign, one gift to carry home. Everyone puts in a little for something nicer, like a Ryan & Co soy candle, Celestial Salts' Summer Rain candle or a Happs Pottery side plate. At WA public schools, the Department's gift rule counts the total value of a group gift, not each family's share, so keep it modest.

When does school finish in WA in 2026?

Thursday 17 December 2026, for WA public schools. That's the last day of Term 4 on the Department of Education's term dates, which we read on 14 October 2026; public schools go back for Term 1 on Monday 1 February 2027. Other schools set their own dates, so check your school's calendar.

What do you get a teacher aide?

Something small and personal, like a chocolate bar, a hand lotion or a little candle. Teacher aides (education assistants, in WA schools), librarians and office staff are easy to miss in the last-week rush. Temper Temper's House Milk bar, Vasse Virgin's rose geranium and pomegranate hand lotion and Ocean House Collection's watermelon travel tin all suit, and a few from one maker can share a parcel.

When should I order so it arrives before the last day?

By about Monday 30 November, if the maker quotes up to 10 business days. That's our sum for Truffle Hill and Vasse Virgin, which both say 7 to 10 business days; Petra Olive Oil says 10 to 14 days, so order from it a little earlier. Gabriel Chocolate, Temper Temper and Margaret River Fudge Factory may hold chocolate and fudge back in very hot weather, so order those early, and if timing's tight, ask the maker.

Do you sell these gifts?

No. We're an independent guide, and every gift links to the maker's own site. You order from the maker directly, or call in at their shop, and none of them paid to be here.

This is an independent guide: we're not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these makers, none of them paid to be here, and we don't sell their products. You buy from them directly. Something changed or wrong? Tell us and we'll fix it the same week.
