Candles

The candles from Margaret River listed here come in two waxes from two makers, which keeps the choice simple. Capricopia keeps bees alongside its goats and makes candles from 100% Western Australian beeswax with a cotton wick. Some are moulded on foundation sheets, so the outside keeps the hexagon pattern of honeycomb. Beeswax has a faint honeyed scent of its own, and nothing is added to it. Cath teaches beeswax candle making on the farm, too.

Celestial Salts hand-pours soy candles in the Margaret River region, where it also grows the flowers for its bath blends. Lotus Moon is ylang ylang and sandalwood, floral and woody, for a cool evening. Summer Rain is passionfruit and lime, bright and fruity, for the kitchen on a warm one.

Where can I buy candles made in Margaret River?

From the makers' own sites. Celestial Salts hand-pours soy candles in the Margaret River region, and Capricopia makes beeswax candles and also has a craft co-op stall at Origins Market in Busselton.

What's the difference between beeswax and soy candles?

Beeswax comes from the hive and carries a faint honey scent of its own, and Capricopia adds nothing to it. Soy wax is made from soybean oil and is usually scented. Celestial Salts' candles carry ylang ylang and sandalwood, or passionfruit and lime.

Can I learn to make beeswax candles near Margaret River?
