Margaret River artisans, galleries and studios Some studios open daily. Some wait for September.

Sixteen places around Margaret River where art and craft are made, every one checked on its own site in October 2026. Potteries with showrooms you can wander through, a furniture gallery in a converted workshop, pearl jewellery made by one family. Open every day, or only in September?

Four places open seven days a week: Happs Pottery, Yallingup Galleries, John Streater and Christian Fletcher. A few more open most days. The rest work by arrangement, or open their doors only in September.

That's Margaret River Region Open Studios. In 2026, 152 artists opened their own studios to visitors, free, from 12 to 27 September. The 2027 dates aren't out yet, so check the organiser's site closer to the time.

Followed an old Margaret River Artisans link? That directory's website has been offline since 2022. This is an independent guide to the same ground. It isn't the association's site, and has no connection with it.

Seven stops, Caves Road to Karridale

North to south, the way you'd drive down from Busselton. The walk-in galleries are at the top end. Margaret River has more makers, but more of them work by appointment. Scroll down and the line drives it with you.

  1. STOP 1

    Caves Road: Happs Pottery's showroom

Start where the clay is. Happs Pottery is a working pottery with a showroom you can wander through, on Caves Road at Anniebrook, near Dunsborough.

Myles Happ makes plates, mugs and tableware for everyday use, and the glazes are named after the coast. The showroom opens daily from 10. Its site gives more than one closing time, so check before a late run.

    Furniture to order, in Vasse

Nathan Day Design builds fine furniture to commission: dining tables, credenzas and desks, each made for the person who asked. There's no walk-in showroom, so start with an enquiry through its site.

  2. STOP 2

Dunsborough: big prints and coastal stoneware

Christian Fletcher Gallery is the one for big WA landscapes: photographs printed large, on Dunn Bay Road. Too big for the car? Have it rolled and posted.

Stephanie Stokes throws stoneware vases, bowls and mugs by hand, in coastal glazes, and sells them from her shopfront on Naturaliste Terrace. It closes for June and July. We didn't see an online shop, so buy in person.

MiKi Jewellery is designed here by founder Nicola, who once dived for pearls in Broome. Everyday jewellery with the ocean in it, in silver, gold-plated silver and stainless steel. No shop door: buy online, or find it at local markets.

Yallingup Galleries: a lot of local work, one roof

Short on time? This is the one for seeing a lot of local work in one go. Yallingup Galleries puts paintings, sculpture, jewellery, ceramics, glass and pieces in timber under one roof, at the corner of Caves Road and Gunyulgup Valley Drive.

It's open seven days, 10 to 4, and sells online, so you can keep browsing once you're home.

Old lists still send people to Gunyulgup Galleries, also in Yallingup. Its gallery has closed, though it still represents a few artists.

Yallingup Siding: furniture from WA hardwoods

Set your map to Blythe Road, not Caves Road. John Streater Fine Furniture is at Yallingup Siding, and it's easy to head for the wrong road.

The workshop has been making furniture to order from native WA hardwoods since 1982, and its gallery is in a converted workshop. Come to see the grain up close and talk about a commission. There's no online shop: enquiries and orders go through its site.

Cowaramup: a clay studio and beaded jewellery

Claymates Studio on Jersey Street is a ceramics studio that runs clay workshops, with a shop of selected finished pieces. Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 4.

Evelyn Henschke makes Henschke Jewellery from beads and glass, here in Cowaramup. Visits are by booking only, and her own site lists the shops that sell her work.

Margaret River: pearls, a Sunday market and studios by appointment

Payet Gallery is the walk-in one here. The Payet family makes jewellery set with pearls and gemstones, and shows it with ceramics and fine art, on Boodjidup Road.

Sunday morning? Anarchy Wood Concepts brings its timber and resin boards to the town square market. It's a small home-run business: think market maker, not studio.

Jolene Hewison runs River Ceramics on her own, throwing mugs, tableware and teapots on the wheel. Classes are by booking, and the studio opens for Open Studios.

Ian Dowling makes stoneware, some wood-fired and some glazed, from pieces for the table to public installations. Email first: his site is a portfolio, not a shop.

Two old names have changed. Melting Pot Glass Studio switched its furnace off on 20 September 2026, after 36 years. JahRoc now shows work by arrangement only, and takes furniture commissions from a waitlist.

Karridale, and the candles with no shop door

The Witchcliffe candle shop has closed. After ten years there, Margaret River Candle Company shut its store in February 2026 and now runs from a workshop in Karridale. No shop to visit for now.

It still sells its handmade candles online, with timber pieces and other gifts made in the region, and hopes to run candle-making sessions again once the new space is finished.

Ocean House Collection has hand-poured scented candles in the Margaret River region since 2012, in a clean white look taken from the coast: travel tins up to a three-wick candle bowl. Online only.

Luminessence Candles pours soy candles, reed diffusers and car fresheners in Margaret River. We found no visiting details, so this one's online too.

Before you go

  1. Check each place's hours on its own site the morning you go. Small studios change them.
  2. Heading to John Streater's? Put Blythe Road, Yallingup Siding in the map, not Caves Road.
  3. Stephanie Stokes Pottery closes for June and July.
  4. Want a studio visit outside Open Studios? Contact River Ceramics, Ian Dowling or Henschke Jewellery through their own sites first.
  5. In Margaret River on a Sunday morning? Anarchy Wood Concepts is at the town square market, 8:30 to 12:30.
  6. Short on boot space? 12 of the 16 places sell through their own online shops, and Christian Fletcher's prints can be rolled and posted.

Questions people ask

Which Margaret River galleries are open every day?

Yallingup Galleries, Happs Pottery, John Streater Fine Furniture and Christian Fletcher Gallery. All four list seven-day hours on their own sites. Check the morning you go: small places change them.

Where can I buy pottery in Dunsborough or Margaret River?

Happs Pottery's showroom on Caves Road opens daily. Stephanie Stokes has a shopfront in Dunsborough (closed June and July), and Claymates Studio in Cowaramup sells finished pieces Tuesday to Saturday.

When is Margaret River Open Studios 2027?

The dates haven't been announced yet; it usually runs in September. The 2026 event was the 13th: 152 artists across Busselton, Dunsborough, Cowaramup and Margaret River, from 12 to 27 September. A volunteer committee runs it, and it won silver for events and festivals at the 2024 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards. Check the organiser's site closer to the time.

Can I visit artists' studios outside Open Studios?

Some, yes: the galleries, potteries and furniture gallery in this guide keep regular hours. Most home studios open only for the event or by arrangement, so contact them through their own sites first.

Is there a glassblowing studio in Margaret River?

Not any more, as far as we know: Melting Pot Glass Studio closed in September 2026. It turned its furnace off on 20 September, after 36 years. For glass, Yallingup Galleries shows glassware among its mix.

Is the Margaret River Artisans website still running?

No. The Margaret River Artisans directory's website has been offline since 2022. This guide is independent. It isn't the association's site and has no connection with it.

Can I buy Margaret River art and craft online after my trip?

Mostly, yes: 12 of the 16 places here sell through their own online shops. The rest sell in person or by commission. Christian Fletcher's prints can be rolled and posted.
