Dinner Plate, Farmhouse

Farmhouse is Happs Pottery's plain white glaze, kept simple on purpose, with a slightly rustic look. On a dinner plate that is a practical choice. White lets the food carry the colour, and it sits easily beside the other Happs glazes if you like a mixed table.

Each plate is pressed in a mould at the Happs studio on Caves Road, between Busselton and Dunsborough, then trimmed, glazed and finished by hand. The potter, Myles Happ, has nearly 30 years of stoneware behind him, most of it reduction fired. At 28.5 cm across and about a kilo, this is a generous plate, and the maker says it can go in the dishwasher, oven and microwave.

Use it for a Sunday roast, or warm it in the oven first so dinner stays hot a little longer.
