River Ceramics

This handmade ceramic mug is short and wide, with a broad handle for a comfortable grip. It is wheel-thrown in a warm, textured clay, and the outside is decorated by hand in black underglaze. A satin matte glaze sits inside and around the design, with small specks of bare clay left showing.

Jolene, the designer and maker behind River Ceramics, works from a studio in Margaret River, Western Australia, that looks out to the trees. She has called the town home for more than 25 years, and much of her work draws on the natural world around her. In 2022 she won the Margaret River Art Prize with a framed wall piece called 'Karri'.

Keep it for the first coffee of the day, or wrap it for a friend who drinks their tea slowly.
