Pemberton truffles are found by dogs with names. Two farming families in the district run Farm Fresh Truffles. By their own account, they planted more than 2,000 hazelnut and oak trees about twelve years ago as hosts for black truffle. Maverick, Zara, Inca, Polly and Frankie do the finding.

For the pantry, the families make a black truffle sea salt. It pairs their own truffle with pyramid flake salt from the Loddon Plains in Victoria, and the maker says it has no artificial flavours or additives. Use it at the table rather than in the pan, over scrambled eggs, buttered pasta or hot chips. They don't publish visiting details, so buy it online.

The big news in town is the Gloucester Tree, a giant karri just outside Pemberton. It reopened to climbers at the end of June 2026, with its lookout 37 metres up. Read the climbing rules first. Our Southern Forests day trip has them, plus Beedelup Falls and the drive from Busselton.

Is the Gloucester Tree open to climb?

Yes. It reopened to climbers at the end of June 2026, with the lookout now 37 metres up, down from 61. Parks and Wildlife says climbing is not recommended for children, so check its Gloucester Tree page before you go.
