Macadamias are Australia's own nut, rich and buttery, and a coat of milk chocolate makes them very hard to stop eating. These are roasted first, which brings out their toasty side and gives them a firmer crunch, then covered in milk chocolate and bagged.
They come from The Margaret River Chocolate Company, which started in a farm shed on a dairy at Metricup, Western Australia, in 1999. The original factory at Metricup has free tastings and a window onto production. The maker says it wins more Perth Royal Food Awards than any other chocolate company, year after year. Its range runs to about 200 lines, from giant bars and rocky road to nut clusters, Australian animal shapes and drinking chocolates.
