Raw Hemp Hearts

Hemp hearts are hemp seeds with the hull removed, raw and 100 per cent Australian grown, with a mild, nutty flavour the farm compares to cashew or pine nuts. The maker describes them as gluten free and vegan friendly, and they need no soaking or cooking before they're eaten.

Vasse Valley Hemp Farm grows and processes its hemp at North Jindong, in the Margaret River region of Western Australia, where Chris and Bronwyn Blake set up the business in 2017. The same seed that becomes this bag of hemp hearts is also cold-pressed for the farm's oil and milled into its protein powder.

Sprinkle them over muesli or a salad, blend them into a smoothie, or work them into bread dough before baking.
