Two places to buy it from the maker

  1. STOP 1

Margaret River: the Saturday farmers market

Saturday is the easy way in. Cambray has a stall at the Margaret River Farmers Market every Saturday, all year, at the Education Campus on Bussell Highway, from 7:30 to 11:30. It's the only cheese stall on the market's producer list.

The sheep's milk cheeses follow the flock's milking season, roughly spring to late summer, so what's on the table changes through the year. Get there early if you're after a particular one.

  2. STOP 2

Cundinup, near Nannup: Cambray's farm shop

The farm is on the Vasse Highway at Cundinup, about 12 km outside Nannup. Jane and Bruce Wilde bought it in 1995 and brought three East Friesian milking sheep into Western Australia two years later. Bruce and their son Tom built the cheese factory themselves, and it was making cheese by 2005.

The farm shop is open every day for tastings, and on cheesemaking days you can watch through the viewing windows. In the sheep season the afternoon milking can be watched too, if you phone ahead. Dogs aren't allowed on the property.

There are more than 20 cheeses: sheep's milk from the family's own flock, and cow's milk from Walsall Dairy near Busselton. Farmhouse Gold is the one the farm calls its signature.
