Simmo's Ice Creamery
Vanilla Vanilla is Simmo's version of the plainest scoop in the cabinet, and the one that shows up any shortcut. It's a full-cream ice cream made with Madagascan vanilla beans, so you get the tiny dark flecks through it and the warm, rounded flavour of the bean itself. It's the flavour to judge an ice creamery by.
Simmo's has been making ice cream on Commonage Road, outside Dunsborough, Western Australia, since 1993, when a father and son started out with a recipe from Ireland and a dozen flavours. The range now runs to about 60, all made with local full-cream milk, and the maker's page says this vanilla has taken a Grand Champion award.
Scoop it beside warm apple pie on a Sunday, or bring a tub home for the freezer after a day at the beach.
