A Cowaramup sweet shop that makes honeycrunch with WA honey in front of visitors, and sells its own fudge in dozens of flavours.
Locals call Cowaramup Cow Town, and the sweet shop on the corner of Bussell Highway and Bottrill Street wears the name too. Candy Cow has been registered under that name since 2007, and it sits right on the main road through town, so it is an easy stop between Busselton and Margaret River.
The reason to time your visit is honeycrunch. Candy Cow makes it in the shop, in front of whoever happens to be there. Each day's flavour is made during a show, so you can buy it fresh. Honeycrunch is a honeycomb toffee: sugar and honey are cooked hot, bicarbonate soda goes in, the pot foams up, and it sets into a crisp, golden slab full of air.
The shop makes it with Western Australian honey, and the online range is sorted by the honey in each bag: redgum from the marri tree, white gum from wandoo, and hakea. Each honey has its own flavour, so a bag of each makes a small tasting set to take home.
Then there is the fudge. It is the shop's own, in dozens of flavours, to recipes the maker says are unique to Candy Cow. The classics are there, among them vanilla, caramel cream and salted caramel, next to brighter ones such as fairy floss, bubblegum and watermelon. Most carry the maker's gluten-free label. The shop has its own nougat too, and makes chocolate-coated sweets.
The rest of the shelves are a proper lolly shop: hundreds of lollies, chocolates and licorice, the old favourites people come looking for. This page is about the sweets Candy Cow makes. The honey crunch and fudge are in its online shop, and if you are visiting, check the maker's site for opening times before you go.
