What is Made Down South?
An independent guide to natural and small-batch goods made in the South West of Western Australia, from honey and olive oil to soap and candles. It's run from Busselton by Frances Simmons and Shane.
Can I buy things here?
Not from us. Every product page has a button that takes you to the maker's own shop, and you buy from them, at their price and on their terms.
How do you choose the makers?
We look for makers who grow or make what they sell here in the South West, from Busselton and Dunsborough down to Margaret River and Augusta, and out to Bunbury, Nannup and Pemberton. We read what each maker publishes about their own work, then write the page ourselves, in our own words.
Why are there no prices?
Prices belong to the maker, and they change. Rather than show one that might be out of date, we send you to the maker's site to see the current price.
Why are there drawings instead of photos?
On maker and product pages we only use photos we've taken ourselves or that a maker has given us permission to use. Until then, each product gets a drawn label made for this site, and photos replace them as they arrive.
Do makers pay to be listed?
No. No maker pays to be on the site. If we ever offer paid placements, each one will be labelled as paid where it appears.
Do you earn anything from links?
Some articles on this site link to Amazon Australia, and each of those articles says so near the links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Links to makers earn us nothing today, and if that changes, the page with the link will say so.
How current is the information?
Every maker page shows when its facts were last checked and where they came from. Makers change things, so check their own site before you buy or visit.
I'm the maker. How do I update or remove my page?
Use Is this your business?. You can correct a fact, send your own photos and wording, or ask for the page to come down, and corrections and removals are actioned within 48 hours.
Can I suggest a maker?
Yes, please. Use the contact form to send us the maker's name and town, and tell us what you like about what they make.
Is anything here health advice?
No. We describe food, skincare and homewares as products: how they taste, feel or smell, what's in them, where they're made and how to use them.
