Made Down South is an independent guide to goods made in the South West of Western Australia. This page sets out what that means, and how the site earns money.
Independent means
We aren't owned by, affiliated with or endorsed by the makers we write about, unless a maker's own page says so. Makers don't pay to be listed, and the words on every page are our own.
Each unclaimed maker page carries the line "Independent guide. Not affiliated with or endorsed by" followed by the maker's name. We only use words like partner or stockist once a maker has agreed to that in writing.
A "Verified by the maker" mark means the maker has contacted us and checked their page. It isn't a paid badge.
How we check facts
Every factual claim on a maker page comes from a source, usually what the maker publishes about their own work. Each page shows when its facts were last checked and lists the sources. Facts older than six months are due for another check.
Makers change their ranges, hours and policies, and a page can fall behind. If you spot something wrong, or you're the maker, use Is this your business? and we'll fix it within 48 hours.
Prices and stock
Prices and stock are set by each maker, on their own site. We don't show prices for goods sold elsewhere. Product pages say "See current price at the maker's site" instead.
How the site earns
Amazon links. Some articles on this site link to Amazon Australia. Made Down South receives a commission on qualifying purchases made through those links, and each of those articles says so near the links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Links to makers. These earn us nothing today. If we join a maker's affiliate or referral program, the page with that link will say so, next to the link.
Paid placements. There are none today. If we introduce them, each one will be labelled as paid where it appears, not only on this page.
Selling directly. If a maker ever agrees to let us sell their range, their page will say so, and our returns and terms of use pages will change before the first sale.
Not health advice
Made Down South describes food, skincare, soap, candles and homewares as products: taste, scent, feel, ingredients, where they're made and how to use them. Nothing here is health advice.
If you need to avoid an ingredient, check the maker's own label or ask them directly.
